Oligomycin is a macrolide that acts as a specific inhibitor of the mitochondrial ATP-synthase and blocks oxidative phosphorylation. The compound is a mixture of isomers A ,B , and C .Cancer cell studies show that Oligomycin does not activate the hypoxia-induced factor, however, it enhances the bioenergetic adaptation of heterogeneous bioenergetically organized cells. Oligomycin has been shown to decreased the cyclin D1 protein expression levelsA specific inhibitor of the mitochondrial ATP-synthase.
